Early 20th century cycling culture in Australia

Most bikes in the early 20th century were apparently fixed gear bikes (it wasn’t until 1937, for example, that the derailleur system was introduced to the Tour de France), and it’s hard to discern any kind of rim brakes in any of these photos.
